MEET OUR PATRON

MR HAMMOND OSEI BERKO

(Msc in Accounting and Finance, Chartered Accountant)

Growing up, I developed the habit of reading almost everything I came across, and being around my father’s newspaper business deepened that love for reading. It sparked my curiosity, expanded my vocabulary, and shaped my quest to constantly learn and discover new words. That simple discipline has remained a vital part of my adult life, contributing greatly to my confidence, articulation, and ability to engage meaningfully in both academic and professional spaces.

Today, in a world where children are increasingly drawn to screens and digital distractions, it is more important than ever for parents to intentionally cultivate the habit of reading. Excessive screen time can reduce attention span and weaken the discipline required for deep reading and learning.

I encourage parents to harness and nurture their children’s love for reading by creating opportunities for them to engage with books and challenge themselves intellectually. Supporting and encouraging children to participate in spelling bee competitions is one powerful way to sharpen their minds, expand their vocabulary, and strengthen their passion for learning. A child who reads consistently today grows into a confident, articulate, and informed leader tomorrow.

The writing competition is part of the Kiddie Author Project where contestants are made to write a story on a giving title to test their creative writing skills. It is an auxiliary program designed to identify and support young authors. The winner will have his/her book published and launched. Proceeds are used to support the educational needs of the contestant. Delia Phyliss Anaafo won the 2026 edition.
